President Reagan was a staunch Republican, yet he was never blinded by ideology. History shows us he was loved by moderate Democrats, independents and Republicans alike. When necessary or advantageous, he was willing to work with anyone and everyone for the benefit of the country he loved so much. John Boehner boasted that he got 98 percent of what he wanted out of the debt ceiling negotiations and now we have a AA+ credit rating. Today, would Reagan say the 11 most dangerous words in the English language are "I’m from the Tea Party Caucus and I’m here to help."?

Yep:
Are we talking about the same President Reagan? The one that tripled the national debt? The one who presided over the largest creditor nation in the world and left us the largest debtor nation in the world? I don’t need to read history pal, I lived the Reagan years as an adult, and I thought he was a great president but he was nothing like the ideology-crazed tea party folks today.

Kelly Jones:
I think so too. That’s the Reagan I lived with for eight years.
P.S. I’m a California Republican. I lived with Reagan eight previous years as well when he was Governor of California.

Anthony:
I’m not so sure Reagan would be welcome in the Tea Party. The blind ideological rage that emanates from that group would certainly include labeling Reagan a RINO. Reagan spent six of his eight years with top tier tax rates between 50 and 70 percent. His last two years he dropped them precipitously and the national debt rocketed upward from 700 billion to 2 trillion. Reagan said debt doesn’t really matter, and remember, his academic degree was in economics. It’s the "t" point on the Laffer curve that matters, and it’s tough to find because it moves based on a variety of market conditions. For example, it’s not reasonable to assume the Bush tax cut to 35 percent did any good at all because we only experienced it through rising housing and stock market bubbles. Reagan would know this today based on his last two years in office where he experimented and failed with impossibly low tax rates. Remember Bush 41? "Read my lips, no new taxes." It was not economically possible to kee
It was not economically possible to keep taxes low for the highest income brackets.

Of all the election campaigns I’ve experienced, dating back to ’72, Ross Perot’s campaign was my favorite. He treated us like thinking adults. He applied the findings of the Grace Commission to modern macro and provided us historic evidence and projection analysis to show us a great many things, including as you’ve stated, the bumbling of Congress. I am so sick of only hearing the message that polls well in focus groups! And I wish these politicians would answer the dam question asked rather than finding a shortcut to their stump speech every time they open their mouths. I would have probably voted for Perot had he stayed in the race. He was a breath of fresh air.

I have been enrolled in a debt consolidation program for about 3 years and have about one more year to go.

My question is on my credit report for each creditor that I have enrolled in the program it reads "payments managed thru a consumer counseling agency" (something along those lines) how long after I have finished the program will this notation remain on my report? Also how long after the program will I be able to get credit again?

FYI I do not need to know how a debt consolidation program works…as I said I have been in it for 3 yrs

I know people have there own opinions about it but I felt for my situation this was the best choice- so please do not give opinions about how I could have paid this debt myself

Please notice that I did not say how soon can I get a credit card I said CREDIT period….for anything specifically a house.

My wife and I owe about ,000 in credit card debt and are now starting to struggle. We just had our first child and found it to be better for my wife to stay home with the baby instead of going to work to basically pay for daycare. We are current on all of our bills and never have been late. Now that she is not going to be working, or even working a part time job, we are going to owe more a month than what I make. My question is this….

All of the credit cards are in her name, so if the creditor decided to take us to court, can they garnish MY wages even though the cards are all in her name? Is debt settlement a good way to go? What are my options? I want to be fully prepared and dont know where to begin.

I have a charged off credit card debt and its about 1. I do realize I have to pay the amount, trust me I know (I’m doing debt consolidation to help me deal with my debts.)

        1. The company is called Creditors Financial Group LLC, I have looked them up online and there are numerous complaints against them.
        2. They are making me pay a settlement and I do not have the money right now. I told them I could pay 0 and they told me they won’t accept it. I have dealt with debt collectors before and I have NEVER heard of them not being able to take a payment of any sort, I thought they would want to get paid?
        3. I told them I would try to get the settlement but, I had to cancel it due to an expense that just recently came up. When I told them I couldn’t pay the settlement they told me to take my 0 (which is what I was offering to pay) and get an attorney. Because I will be getting sued. This call is being recorded for quality assurance I’m sure and I have always thought that it is illegal to threaten to sue over the phone, especially over the phone.
        4. The amount is about 0 and I have another account with the same creditor that is over 0..If they would try to get me for the 0 I’m sure they would try to get me for the other amount first. I’m doing debt consolidation starting next month to help…Isn’t it illegal for them to threaten you? He said something also like "Oh so you rather go shopping than pay your settlement amount? I see you don’t care about your finances whatsoever!" How is that even possible when I offered 0 to pay this month? They need to get closed down or get better employees! How am I going shopping? I have never ever felt so threatened before, and I have dealt with debt collectors before! My debt consolidation company told me not to worry about it, they will work with them from now on..

        What does this mean?

there are countless websites of information on the internet from anecdotal experience, consumer groups, etc etc interpreting the FDCPA and other federal credit laws, as well as some states guidelines too.

a lot of talk is about "debt validation" or "debt verification" meaning that a debt collector cannot legally collect a debt if they cannot satisfy a request for proof that they actually possess the back-up documentation concerning the debt, that they own the debt, original signed agreements from the OC (original creditor) and even statements.

so i am in this position of having debt collectors come after me for old debts (but NOT out of statue of limitations). i am self-employed in a business and i am totally hand-to-mouth, i live with a close friend, i have no savings, i haven’t filed or needed to file taxes in 7 years, and i own nothing. i am on medicaid and have been on food stamps too. my bank account has in it.

without judging me (some of you will) please tell me how i can get these creditors off my bank. one is trying to collect 00 (the original amount was 00) and i have a few more that total about 00 total. some of them already got judgments against me.

i hate debt collectors and i think they are leeches upon society, close to operating illegally.

years ago, i paid into the system with constant employment, and i paid 0,000 in taxes and social security from the years 1990-1999 so don’t call me a leech. some of us take another turn in life and hope to get back on our feet. i don’t want to illustrate the whys of what happened to me, i just want some questions answered.

can these companies be gotten off my back and how?????

i do not want to pay them anything yet i don’t want my credit score worse than it is.

can i force them to validate/verify/prove a debt and are their claims often thrown out of court (as many groups on websites say) if they cannot provide proper verification?? what is proper verification??

also one company called me 165 times in a few months, like a robo call, and when i would answer, they would hang up. it was just to harrass me at 8am on a sunday morning, or early in the morning.
          IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
i did NOT ask the debt collector to validate the debt in 30 days on ANY of my creditors. i didn’t understand about this. now i do but is it too late??? it seems unfair.

also, each time a new debt collector buys the debt (does this usually happen???) does the debt validation 30 day process start all over with another debt collection company???

I know the answer to this question depends on a bunch of factors, but in general, for what percent of the original total could I reasonably expect to settle a Credit Card debt that is k and has been in default for just over 1.5 years? In this case I’m reasonably certain the Debt Collector is acting on behalf of the original Creditor and has not purchased the debt, and of course assumes the original Creditor is in fact willing to settle.

For those who see fit to lambaste me for defaulting: don’t bother commenting unless you have some relevant information. I’m here to ask for help, not to get lectured. I’ve gotten plenty of lecturing from my parents and have no need for any more of it!
